About contractor jobs

A contractor advert is for a role on a project rather than a rank on board. Each one names the role and the place of work, the city and the country, the duration and the pay, so you can weigh three months on a project against your next contract at sea.

Many contractors are seafarers between contracts, or former crew who now work from project to project. For this work the trade certificates matter more than STCW papers - a coded welding qualification, rope access, working at height, an electrical licence - so keep them current in your profile, where the company reads them when you apply.
