About shipyard jobs

Yards and owners’ site teams look for superintendents to follow a newbuilding or a docking, engineers and electricians for commissioning and sea trials, and skilled hands for the work itself. An advert names the rank it is for and the place of work. It names no vessel type, because a yard works on whatever comes into the dock: a tanker this month, a ferry the next.

Yard work is done ashore, often in shifts and often far from home, so every advert gives the city and the country of the yard, and its contract length or that it is permanent. Sea service still counts here: it is how a yard knows you understand what a system has to do once the ship sails.
